Eat, Learn, and Build a Better Budget With Us

Are you coming to our awesome action session, Winning a Better Budget, tomorrow evening? In case you haven’t signed up yet (or even if you have!) I want to share a few reasons why I’m excited about this event.

Three reasons this event is going to blow your mind:
1. You’ll get to learn and work alongside our staff and clients, some of the best and most passionate advocates I know.
2. Fantastic local campaigns will be showcasing their strategies, sharing their skills, and working together.
3. You can propose anything related to the DC budget and see if there are other people that want to build a project or talk through an issue with you.

I sat down with my intern Joei to hear what she thought about the proposal to reduce cash assistance and make it harder to get help through the TANF program. Among other things, she’s studying communications in college, raising two boys, and using Food Stamps to make ends meet. Here’s what she had to say about what these changes will mean and why the community needs to be involved in budget decisions.

Please join us tomorrow as we stand up for the services we need for healthy families and strong communities. Dinner is served at 5:30 pm and budget information and action will happen from 6:00 to 8:00. The event is at our Northwest Center, 1525 7th St NW, two blocks south of the Shaw/Howard Green Line Station; parking is available.

Whether or not you can come tomorrow, you can send an email to the Council now asking them to restore funding for safety net programs.
